Greetings! My name is Josh McIllwain, one of the hosts of the Bookwyrm Gaming Community and our annual Bookwyrm Convention. One of my goals for Bookwyrm has always been to provide a place that is fun, comfortable, and safe. We all share a common love for gaming, and we should strive to welcome everyone and make them feel happy to be included.
We owe a lot of our community standards to the great folks at Big Bad Con, another wonderful and inclusive convention and community. Check them out if you haven’t already!
In order to ensure that Bookwyrm is a safe community for everyone, we have community standards that all attendees are expected to uphold. These apply to all Bookwyrm-related events, including smaller RPG Club events and our annual Bookwyrm Con.
Bookwyrm has a zero tolerance policy towards any harassment. If you are a target of or witness to harassment, please contact Bookwyrm organizers or library staff and it will be dealt with directly. If you are a target of harassment, we will contact local law enforcement, provide a safe space, provide escort, and anything else that is required to assist with your safety.
This includes, but is not limited to:
offensive verbal comments
physical assault and/or battery
harassing or non-consensual photography or recording
sustained disruption of games, workshops, or other events
inappropriate physical contact
unwelcome physical attention
In relation to, but not limited to:
national origin or citizenship
gender identity or presentation
Anyone is allowed to report harassment. Please report an incident by:
Calling/texting (559) 492-0080
Speaking to a Bookwyrm staff member or Fresno County library employee
Failure to adhere to Bookwyrm’s community standards can result in mediation, verbal warnings, ejection from events, and contacting local law enforcement.
Our community standards apply to everyone, period. This includes attendees, GMs, special guests, exhibitors, vendors, volunteers, and staff. All are subject to our anti-harassment policy and will be held equally to our community standards and disciplinary actions.
If you are in immediate physical danger, make sure your safety is your number one priority and contact law enforcement before reaching out to Bookwyrm staff.
